Over 30 Years of Part Making

About Us

In 1990, Pioneer Service Inc. started with a few Brown and Sharp screw machines and centerless grinders, and a team intent on developing a precision machining services company delivering top-quality turned parts. Over 30 years later, that mission is still our purpose and vision.

What We Do

Pioneer Service specializes in contract precision machining and centerless grinding services, delivering custom CNC Swiss machined and turned components for diverse industries. As an AS9100- and ISO 9001:2015-certified company, we believe in quality, the art of precision, and the value of meticulous attention to detail. We work hard to ensure that every component we produce is proof of our commitment to excellence.

Our facility currently houses a fleet of more than 32 machines, enabling us to produce components with complex features and tight tolerances. Machining parts with outside diameters (ODs) ranging from 0.05 to 1.50 inches, our equipment can achieve tolerances of ±0.0005 inches. To augment our swiss machining capabilities, our in-house centerless grinding department delivers tolerances as close as ±0.0001 inches.

On our high speed multi-axis Swiss CNC machines, we create myriad components with short lead times. With up to 11 axes, our lathes can achieve intricate component features through drilling, slotting, reaming, broaching, threading and tapping; all on-machine.

Utilizing round bar, hexagon, and tube stock, we can Swiss machine CNC components from materials like aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, carbon steel, specialty steels, and steel alloys — as well as a range of thermoplastics. For turned part orders of 500 to 1 million pieces, Pioneer Service’s flexible and scalable production solutions enable us to complete small, mid- and high-volume orders with precision and quick turn times. When machining multiple components, we provide light assembly work, as well.

Anyone that’s been working in a machine shop environment for the past 20+ years will remember the days when quotes were done by hand. Actually anyone that’s worked in ANY manufacturing environment for that amount of time will remember the days when quoting was mostly done by hand – with calculators, a pencil with a good eraser, and a strong cup of coffee. Estimating was done with a stack of reference sheets with material costs, labor variables, machine time, tooling costs, down time, etc. And you depended heavily on your long-time engineers, production team members, and quality managers. Often times, “RFQ meetings” were hours long, while everyone poured over copies of prints, and members racked their brains to remember similar parts the facility ran for comparisons. You depended on some facts, good memories, gut feelings, as well as a bit of luck and wishful thinking.Today, most machine shops are light years ahead, using various tools to assist with this process, including a CRM, an ERP, and a wide range of quoting applications. Here are some important metrics that Pioneer Service uses to analyze our quoting effectiveness and for determining areas for improvement:1. Quote Turnaround Time: The time it takes from receiving an RFQ to submitting a completed quote to the prospect or customer. 2. Quote Accuracy: The accuracy of our quote estimate when compared to the actual costs incurred during production. 3. Quoting Efficiency: The number of RFQs processed per unit of time, by type of quote (with and without secondary finishing operations, etc).4. Quote Revisions: How often quotes need to be revised before they are accepted by the customer. And what types of revisions they are (changes from the client, etc).5. Customer Feedback: Collect feedback from customers about the RFQ process, including response times, clarity of quotes, and overall satisfaction. 6. RFQ Win/Loss Analysis: The reasons for both won and lost RFQs. 7. Customer Response Time: The time it takes for customers to respond to your quotes or requests for clarification. 8. Response Rate: the percentage of RFQs that receive a response from your shop. There are several additional factors that may/should be taken into consideration:1. Different team member inputs – you may be training new engineers, need input from multiple individuals on complex jobs, or needing approvals for non-standard margin reviews. Keeping track of these variables will ensure that your metrics provide good data for decision making.2. Outside vendor quoting – whether for material costs, an outside processing vendor, or additional information that requires a quote from multiple vendors, this can add significant time and complexity to the quoting process. Monitoring metrics for any outside vendors should also be part of any metrics process.3. Equipment variables – multiple factors such as equipment age, variables in automation between machines, and access to back up equipment if there are issues running a job, may also need to be considered when analyzing quote effectiveness.Regularly reviewing these metrics and making data-driven improvements to your RFQ process can lead to increased efficiency, shorter quote lead times, better training programs, higher customer satisfaction, improved competitiveness, and better overall business performance in your machine shop.#metrics #advancedmanufacturing #cncmachining #quoting #cost #customerservice ...
