Aneesa Muthana and Rose of Sharon DeVos of Pioneer Service joined other women in STEM careers for a panel discussion meant to inspire the 14th District STEM scholars. This program, sponsored by Congressman Randy Hultgren of the 14th District in Illinois, provided 19 students exposure to a wide variety of careers in STEM over the course of six months. The women on the panel shared their stories of various career choices and offered advice.

Lt. Gov. Sanguinetti was the keynote speaker for the event, and shared her experience of pushing past barriers of her parents immigration challenges and poverty to succeed in music, law and eventually become Illinois’ second-in-command leader. She shared statistics about the STEM opportunities in Illinois and encouraged students to learn, develop their careers and stay in the state.

Aneesa shared “Workers, they don’t look at you as a woman or a male now,” she said. “It’s not men versus women. We are on the same team. Men are so used to dominating the industry. But it’s not like that anymore. They will see your passion. Lead well. People will follow.”
